Bulalo Point and Turo-turo Grill in Tagaytay

For foodies, Tagaytay is almost synonimous to bulalo and tawilis as those craving for the hot beef and bone marrow dish and the crunchy small fish go this city in Cavite to satisfy their cravings. We're one of them! Months before the sad occurrence of the Taal Volcano eruption, our family spent a night in Tagaytay. We arrived quite late as we came all the way from Lucena City. We decided to have dinner at one of the popular bulalo restaurants there located at Mendez Crossing East: Bulalo Point Turo-turo Grill. It was almost closing time so we just ordered two viands
so they won't take much time preparing.
What we had:

Nilagang Bulalo, P480.

Calamares, P230.

Ripe mango shake P80.

There's no contention as to how good the bulalo was. The beef was really tender and the soup was hot, flavorful and extremely satisfying! With a dipping sauce of "toyo", "kalamansi" and "sili", I could have bulalo this good everyday. Haha!
Meanwhile, the calamares was delicious too, and the kids loved
it with the mayo-ketchup dip.

We came famished but went out full and satisfied.
Hope to be back to Bulalo Point soon for more of the unforgettable nilagang bulalo.
Try this place, folks, when you're spending a day
or two in the cool city of Tagaytay.

Andy's Famous Batangas Lomi & Bulalo on Visayas Ave.

New places to eat in the neighborhood whether at home or work place is always a good thing. The more choices, the merrier! Recently, my office friends and I were excited over a new addition to our list of foodie places on Visayas Ave in Quezon City that we could go to during our lunch and coffee breaks. It's Andy's Famous Batangas Lomi & Bulalo. If you're wondering why Batangas lomi is famous, it's because it has lots of meat ingredients (sahog) like kikiam,
pork meat, pork liver and ham.
If you live or work nearby or happen to pass by Visayas Ave., you'll just be as delighted as we are eating at Andy's which is a simple, no-fuss Pinoy eatery for the very good food, huge servings and downright low prices. The only thing you might not like is that the place is not air-conditioned but what the heck, the food is so good that the heat is unlikely to bother you.
Andy's opened on Visayas Ave. last January but we learned about it just this month. Since then, my office friends and I have not let a week pass without eating there.
So far, we've tried these:

Bulalo, P95. This is the 'litid' bulalo but if you want the meat, you can order it for P145. The soup's so good, it's real Batangas beef goodness!
Lomi, P45. for the smallest bowl. The one pictured here is the bigger order, priced P85. and could already be good for 2-3 persons. I'm not a fan of lomi but I liked this for its balance of flavors, thick soup and having lots of 'sahog'. One bowl is really big, it won't leave you wanting.
Pancit bihon, P70. One thing on this: it's the best! I am a pancit bihon person but I'm quite picky when it comes to my pancit. I don't eat just about any pancit but want the really good one. Andy's pancit, I could declare, is the best-tasting I've ever had. I like its texture brought about by the thin noodles, the balance of flavors and at Andy's, they never scrimp on 'sahog'. There's always a lot!
Pancit palabok, P70. This one's my second favorite at Andy's, next to the pancit bihon. Delicious!
Pancit canton-bihon, P70. This was my co-worker's order. I'm also not a fan of this kind of
pancit but I could say it's good, too.
Porkloin. I forgot about the price but I think it's around P60. An order has two slices of sizzling pork bathed in gravy. My officemate loved this.
Sizzling pusit, P95. My lunch one time. The squid rings are tender and the sauce is sweet-salty. Quite good, too, and a wise choice if you're avoiding meat.
Tapang Taal, P55. I ordered this out of curiosity as I wondered what tapang Taal was. Well, the meat
is pork instead of beef. It was surprisingly delicious!

Inside Andy's

Andy's at the corner of Visayas Ave. and Road 10 in Diliman, QC

In my 12 years of going to work on Visayas Ave., Andy's is the third restaurant that opened on its site. The previous ones, I surmise, closed down due to slow business. But I foresee Andy's flourishing as it's always jam-packed at lunchtime. And I certainly do hope it's staying for a long time  because it has become our favorite lunch and merienda place for the reasons I've mentioned (good food, big servings, low prices).  Try Andy's Famous Batangas Lomi and Bulalo, folks!
Aside from their Visayas Ave. store, they also have one in Malakas St.
Barangay Pinyahan, also in Quezon City.
Happy eating!

Bull's-eye 'bulalo' goodness at Bullchef

I had just come from a week-long joyful and refreshing summer vacation in my hometown in Quezon province. But before I left Manila with three of my four kids and two nephews, I had the chance to revisit one of Pasig City's top favorite foodie destinations - Bullchef. It is here where "bulalo" lords over every other dish - that extremely popular and loved Filipino beef dish that has broth which to me is so delicious and satisfying it could heal even a broken spirit. My daughter and I attended church in Kapitolyo, and were famished after the two-hour service.
It was but fitting to warm our tummies with bulalo. This was my order. My daughter chose the lechon kawali meal which also came with delicious bulalo soup.

Solo order of Bulalo called 'Bullilit', P135.
'Lechunami' (lechon kawali meal with garlic rice, ensalada and bulalo soup), P135.

This was actually my second visit to Bullchef and my daughter's first. She loved the bulalo soup so much she declared at once that she wanted to eat here again. The soup here is very flavorful, which, I surmise, is the result of hours and hours of simmering beef bone marrow. Aside from our orders of bulalo and lechon kawali, Bullchef also offers other Filipino dishes like sisig and sinigang. All-day breakfast is available, too, to include tapa and longganisa meals. They even have steaks, which I was able to have a taste of last year when I was first here with a friend of mine.
Try Bullchef if you haven't, folks and find very good bulalo without having to go to Tagaytay.

Home-cooked Pinoy food goodness at Tapa Supreme

I first saw Tapa Supreme on Espana Blvd. a few months ago and I was instantly attracted to its simple but neat interiors and no-frills Pinoy menu consisting of dishes that could just remind you of home like sinigang na baboy, beef with ampalaya, pancit bihon and bulalo served in a palayok. It's a non-airconditioned but pretty decent place with prices that are sure not to burn a hole in the pocket. It's always jam-packed with customers especially students, at meal times. I've lost count of the number of times I've eaten here with family and our favorites,
aside from bulalo, are the tapsilog and sinigang na baboy.
Here's what we've tried so far at Tapa Supreme:

Tapsilog, P55.
The tapa is a bit sweet and delicious and the meat is tender.
Bulalo, P75.
My favorite! Lots of soup. And see those bone marrow? So sinfully good!
T-Bone Steak, P75.
Good too! Notice everything on the hot plate's swimming in gravy. Haha!
Sinigang na Baboy, P65.
This is my youngest kid's all-time favorite. The soup is deliciously sour.
Beef with Ampalaya, P50.
This was my daughter's order once for dinner. She didn't like it a lot.
Beef Pares, P50.
Quite good but no chili sauce! Grrr..! I settled for siling labuyo.
Pepsi products are available here.

Tapa Supreme on Espana Bvd,

Tapa Supreme has three branches that I know of in Manila - along Espana near the corner of M. Dela Fuente; on Dimasalang in Sta. Cruz and along Vicente Cruz at the corner of Dapitan (not sure of this last street, though). Go visit one of these days for some delicious and affordable Filipino food that remind you of mom's cooking. Happy eating!
