Fulfill your dessert fantasies at The Lost Bread

My kids and I first went to The Lost Bread in 2015 when it started business as a stall at Streat food park on Maginhawa St. in Quezon City. It only offered desserts then (if my memory serves me right) -- those spectacular, IG-worthy milkshakes and soft-serve ice cream that were both beautiful and delicious. Now, just a few years later, The Lost Bread has 10 branches already and has more items in its menu. 
They now offer pasta, burgers and rice meals.

Recently, my two kids and I were at their SM Megamall store, where I got them dessert after having lunch at the nearby DC Super Heroes Cafe. 
Our orders:

White Chocolate Caramel Sub-Zero Soft-Serve Cup, P145.

There's caramel popcorn with "injectible" white chocolate syrup. If you ask 

for my opinion, it's a diabetic person's nightmare. Hahaha!

This was the less-guilt dessert for me. There's graham crackers and a piece of marshmallow. Surprisingly, the soft-serve ice cream wasn't as sweet as I expected. I enjoyed a few spoonfuls of this then off I went for a cup of brewed coffee someplace.

Gringo for your Mexican food cravings

Mexican food is among the foreign indulgences I love..who doesn't take to tacos anyway? It's one of my and my kids' favorite things to eat whether at home (homemade) or in restaurants. Recently, I discovered Gringo at SM Megamall and had dinner there together with my sister and two kids. Gringo isn't new, though, I've been seeing it in some malls and I was glad I finally 
had the chance to try it.

The nachos was such a hit, it was gone in no time! I was busy with my soup, I almost had none of the nachos left for me. Haha! I loved my soup, anyway, it was hot and very comforting to my growling tummy (I was starving!) and the broth had a subtle but not bland flavor. The tacos were really good as well, flavorful without being salty. The rest of us loved his/her own order especially my daughter who had the ribs. 
She said she had ordered it on her first time at Gringo and loved 
the tender meat that was deliciously sweet-tangy-smokey.

Anyway, she and my sister both had mojito. I tasted it and it was "minty good"! I would have ordered it too if I didn't stop drinking seven years ago when I got born-again (not that I miss the occasional booze, I don't!). 

Gringo is one nice place to go and have your Mexican favorites. They serve good food at reasonable prices and their servers are attentive and friendly. I think there's a branch in most SM Malls in the metropolis.

DC Super Heroes Cafe at the SM Megamall

I found a fun place at SM Megamall recently, and it was too cool to pass up. I purposely brought my two kids there last month so they could enjoy not only the food but also the happy vibe. As it turned out, I was the one who enjoyed the most! DC Super Heroes Cafe is obviously for those who love Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and other fictional heroes that originated from DC Comics and DC Entertainment. I may not be very fond of watching movies but I loved comics as a child and 
a former local comics layout artist myself. 
Dining at the cafe was both a gustatory delight and a feast for the eyes! Toys and collectibles were all around, they brought out my long-hybernating inner child. But more than just a toy and knick-knacks store, the place is also a "real" restaurant with several pages of an impressively made colorful menu covering mostly Western cuisines. An enjoyable lunch it was that my two kids and I had one Saturday.

Barbecue Chicken with Breakfast Cheese
Whoever gave birth to the idea of putting chicken and cheese together in one dish, I commend him. Who doesn't love those two anyway? Separately, barbecued chicken and melted cheese ooze awesome flavors and combining them results in a simple but amazing dish. My son ordered this and finished it together with a cup of steamed rice P50.). He was happy. I knew he would be!

Chicken fingers a la Negra, P350.
Anyone who knows me well also knows the fact that black is one of my favorite colors and it also applies to food. Needless to say, i got excited seeing black chicken fingers on the DC Super Heroes Cafe menu. It's served with a honey mustard sauce and a side of coleslaw. I also ordered Rice Pilaf (P60.) to go with it. Those "fingers" were delicious as they were lovely. There's a plastic Batman insignia right there among the pieces of chicken if you see it, and now I wonder if it was good for taking home. I regret not asking. There's no harm in trying!

These pieces of grilled beef Mediterrenean-style were yummy and filling, being served with both pita bread and steamed rice, topped with a dollop of butter. I love those spices that give Middle Eastern cuisine a distinct aroma and taste, though they could make the food cloying after a few spoonfulls.

Two thumbs up for all our orders! My kids and I had no complaints, we loved everything! I would want to go back to try their other offers, including the drinks and dessert, which look so appealing on the menu. We didn't order drinks on our first visit 'coz I decided that we would get milk tea after lunch. I hadn't had milk tea for over a week as we had just arrived from a vacation in the province the day before and I was really craving! Anyway, I recommend that you bring the whole family.

Alqueria at SM Mega Fashion Hall

My Saturday this past weekend was a bit off the ordinary as our family celebrated three happy occasions - my brother-in-law's birthday, nephew's birthday, and another nephew's graduation from college. My kuya (elder brother) decided to treat everyone at Alqueria, a restaurant serving Spanish  cuisine at the SM Mega Fashion Hall. 

I'm not very fond of this type of cuisine but it was a welcome change 
from what we usually eat when we go out as a family. 

What we had:

Cochinillo sisig

Churros

What I loved about Alqueria? The food is fresh and well-executed. Every dish is beautifully plated and served, too, giving each one its own "personality". In other restaurants, dishes come in uniform plates but here at Alqueria, the serving plates come in different shapes, colors and patterns. For some people, those are well, just plates. But to me, they show creativity and add a little more excitement to eating which, together with the ambiance of the place, 
put the over-all dining experience a notch higher. 
But going back to the food, it was remarkable that all the dishes have a clean taste - they are delicious without going overboard on the flavors. My favorite though was the Lengua because of the gravy-like sauce, sliced button mushrooms and baby potatoes. I also loved the Cochinillo sisig which had a crunch to it and a bit of zing. I loved, too, the paella, which might as well be the "queen" of Spanish cuisine, plus the black-as-night calamares - each piece bathed in its own ink - what else? The churros, is of of course, a signature Spanish dessert-snack that provided 
a nice ending to our equally nice lunch.
But wait, there's more! 
We had another dessert - a chiffon cake topped with lots of fruits which my brother's wife ordered from Cakes by Miriam. It's called the Merry Berry cake and is topped by fresh strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and kiwi and grapes. I loved it as it's not too sweet and because there's a lot of fruits, it's healthier than most other cakes.

Try Alqueria, folks, and up the ante of your dining out pleasure. Best to go with family or friends because the order sizes are meant for sharing. Prices may be a little steep but remember whom Spanish food is for - the Ilustrados! Haha! Just kidding. 
For food so good, Alqueria is worth the price.
